Known for its picturesque surroundings, the enchanting valley of Patnitop is a frequent leisure stop for travellers heading towards Kashmir. Situated in the middle of Udhampur and Srinagar, Patnitop offers you a glimpse of the striking beauty of Kashmir. This breathtaking hill station is situated on a plateau in the Shivalik belt of the Himalayan ranges. Originally, Patnitop was known as Patan Da Talab meaning 'The Pond of Princess'. Chenab flows at a close proximity to the city, and sturdy Deodar and pine trees envelope the entire region. Most long and short treks begin here and if you are an enthusiastic trekker, do ask the locals about the various options. Though an unexplored hill station till a few years ago, Patnitop has now become a favourite with travellers. Spring is a riot of colours here while winter offers opportunities for skiing and sledging. Batote, a small hill station 13 km downhill to Patnitop, is very well known for its apple orchards.
