Day 1: It was a weekend approaching and how can you miss going somewhere.Trust me guys,I do a lot of investigation before planning any trip so as to incur the trip in the least budget.
I planned to go on a very short notice so i searched for the nearby countries which I can visit from the Netherlands(as I live here) and finally,after a lot of brainstorming and enquiring tickets,I found out the return flight ticket from Amsterdam to Luxembourg was almost the same cost as in I completed my entire trip :P, haha ,almost 250 euros and which would make me reach in 1.30 hrs.
There,after seeing the price,obviously,I decided to look for the other travel options and yes,there I succeeded in getting bus tickets from Amsterdam to Luxembourg within 50 euros ,almost 1/4 the cost of flight tickets. Though the time to reach was obviously more than the flight ,but yea it was only 5 hours,at 1/4th the price,so I, immediately, booked the bus tickets.
Journey started from Amsterdam(Netherlands) at Saturday,28th September. I preferred travelling early morning on saturday rather than friday night so as to avoid extra hotel charges for a day (when actually you reach almost end of the day). At 6:30a.m.,I started my journey towards the not much known famous place in Europe but undoubtedly,it was the best decision,I had ever made."Luxembourg" - Little Switzerland as remarked most of the times is ,for sure ,justified.
After catching my bus,early morning,though it is really tough to get up early morning especially on weekends,I somehow managed to do it because of my passion towards travelling. I spent the first half of the journey sleeping until the bus stopped for a 30 min break at Hasselt,Belgium. There I got down from the bus, took some tea and have a look around the view with cold windy cloudy day.
Finally,I reached my destination,yes it was Luxembourg P+R Bouillion ,which was the bus stop,from there,i had to take a bus to the city centre,where actually was my hotel. It was unbelievable for me to see the full day travel ticket price only 4 euros which was really too low in comparison to 53 euros in the Netherlands for a day travel pass.
Finally.I reached the hotel which cost me around 160 euros as I preferred taking in the city centre and breakfast was included in this price.You could have managed a cheaper hotel/hostel somewhere far from the city centre but I didn't want to waste time in travelling rather than visiting nearby places of this beautiful country.
I quickly freshen up and got ready to explore this peaceful place. The city centre was itself surrounded by historical monuments,Cathedrals and I went to each of them one by one,took a lot of photos and really enjoyed the aura of this city. Something strange which I found,was big models of brain at various places and I didn't miss the opportunity to take a pic with it too.
Day 2: Day started with a nice continental breakfast provided by the hotel.I had eaten so much so as to save my money on lunch haha :P I went to nearby city which is actually known as Little Switzerland "Mullerthal". I have also heard it for the first time and had the same excitement anyone would have when you hear anything related to "Switzerland".It was a journey of 1.5 hours from the city centre and had a direct bus ,111,going to "Echternach" in 4 euros almost 28Km.As the journey started,I could already see the mountains and hilly curves along the pathways. Indeed,mind boggling!!
I went to the Schiessentumel waterfall,Abbery of Echternach,Echternach Lake,Roman Villa ,Market Square (Musee de L'abbaye) within the city centre by walk.I was hungry now and found Subway so I immediately took a big one and eat on my way back to the hotel as it was already dark and late in the evening around 8 p.m.
Day3- Again the morning was too good as usual because I got everything prepared in breakfast without going into the kitchen.I made my stomach full and went to the Grand Ducal palace,Walls of the Corniche,Notre-Dame Cathedral. I was totally amazed to see a tourist place as a "Pfaffenthal Lift" but when i went inside it,I realized why is it famous.You get the view of entire Luxembourg from the lift.Interesting isn't it?
After eating all this continental and fast food from past two days,my stomach was craving for the traditional food and how could I resist going to an Indian restaurant just opposite to my hotel,which I was trying to ignore from past two days.Before leaving Luxembourg,I went to the restaurant and ate a lot of food so that it last for my entire return journey.
Time flies!! and even faster when you are on vacation.It was time to go back to Netherlands and get back to the routine life of going to office and earning money so as to go on further trips.
