From losing the boarding pass to incessant flight delays,we arrived in Jaipur with growling tummies. The Pink City is not just famous for enthralling history but also for satisfying your taste buds. After indulging in the local delicacies, we set out to visit Hawa Mahal which is one the celebrated architectural spaces within the city. One can see people flocking to click pictures of this beautiful building and who can blame them! The innumerable aesthetic small windows provide an air conditioning effect in the interiors for the building. The intention(?) was to allow the royal ladies to observe the life outside without being seen (Damn the patriarchy).

The interiors are worth visiting. The simple entrance opens to the courtyard with fountain in the middle. The pillars, colored glass windows and the hidden way to the top floors represent an assorted culture of Rajputs and Mughals. The best hours to visit would be in early hours as the place is touristy.

Despite the modern-day challenges and stress, I am glad to be a woman in the 21st century, free-spirited and independent and not confined within walls with only a window to view the world !! I walked down to the exit saying a silent prayer of thanks and wondering if it was my soul’s journey to bring me here to fill me with gratitude for this life.
