Ahmedabad had been on my bucket list for quite some time, and it didn't disappoint as my first destination in Gujarat, leaving me eager for more. Balancing work and travel can be challenging, but I quickly learned that where there's a will, there's a way. I began exploring on weekends and maximizing long weekends whenever possible. While my list of sights to see in Ahmedabad was long, I also prioritized taking moments to pause, savor, and enjoy the experience without rushing – a rare luxury in our fast-paced lives.

So, here's my guide to a tranquil and leisurely weekend in Ahmedabad, especially tailored for first-time visitors!

1. Breakfast at Gajanand Poha

Upon seeking recommendations from a friend, a native of the city, Gajanand rose to the top of the list. Being a passionate foodie, I couldn't resist the temptation. It didn't take long for me to realize why this place holds such renown. It wasn't just the typical Bombay-style poha or Bengali 'Chirer Pulao' that I was accustomed to, nor was it the Indori poha.

Gajanand boasted a staggering selection of at least 50 varieties of poha, each one more delicious than the last. Trust me, this is a culinary gem you don't want to overlook.

2. Indulge in a well deserved staycation at House of Mangaldas

Weekend getaways are even better when you get to stay in good properties. Ahmedabad has a lot of nice places to stay in even in the old city. But when you Google the city - you will find House of MG come up in almost every suggestion - stay, luxury, food (their thaali is famous) and even walking tour. So I decided to treat myself and book myself in this beautiful place - and I did not regret it.

JUST LOOK AT THAT POOL!

3. Gufa & More Art

One of the many reasons of me wanting to go to this city was BV Doshi's Gufa. The city is famous (quite aptly) for its architecture and even is home to some of the best design schools in the country. Amdavad ni Gufa may appear simple but it's quite special.

Designed by BV Doshi and exhibiting MF Hussain's work, this place is more than a gallery. The structure itself is unique - domes, caves and irregular columns.

Right outside is also a very nice cafe which serves good coffee, so it's a nice place to visit post lunch or early evening even.

4. Heritage spots you CANNOT miss!

The UNESCO World Heritage City designation is enough to explain this point, but out of the many things one shouldn't miss the Adalaj Stepwell

For the rest including the great mosque - highly recommend taking a heritage walking tour.

PS: House of MG offers one too.

PPS: This is not sponsored, just a genuine review from a happy guest.

Ahmedabad offers a plethora of experiences to satiate every wanderer's soul.

5. Shop for good textiles at the Bazaar

Manek Chowk in the old city has a few stores but the city has some good spots to just buy material that can be later stitched. And if you're not in the mood to shop then check out the Calico Museum of Textiles. I do not have a photo but I'm sure that's easy to look up. But if you love design, art & fashion - it's not a place you want to miss out on!
