There are many places
1st you can cover golden triangle which includes delhi , agra and jaipur
apart from this you can select a state like uttarakhand or himachal
or pujab and rajasthan and all
you can go accordingly your planned states
but i thnk if you are coming to north india must visit varanasi, udaipur, jaisalmer, manali, kasol, spiti, hrishikesh, dharmshala, nainital.
