Hi Vedansh, The Atal Tunnel and Rohtang Pass are both subject to closures during winter, especially in February, due to heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions. While the Atal Tunnel itself is engineered to withstand winter conditions and stay operational throughout the year, the road beyond the tunnel, especially towards Sissu, might be closed due to snow accumulation and avalanche risks. The specific dates of closure can vary depending on the severity of the winter and snowfall. It's best to check the latest updates from official sources like the Himachal Pradesh Police Department or the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) before your trip. Even if the tunnel is open, you might need special permits to travel to Sissu during winter. These permits are usually issued to residents of Lahaul Spiti and essential service vehicles. The Rohtang Pass itself is typically closed from November to April due to heavy snowfall and treacherous road conditions. During the closure period, you can reach Sissu via the Manali-Leh Highway, which remains open throughout the year. However, this route is longer and requires good driving skills due to its mountainous terrain.
