Hey,
The places to visit in and around Srinagar are endless and depend totally on number of days that you have. I strongly recommend and condone visiting Srinagar now because it will be you and me who will normalise the situation in the valley. Here are certain places to visit and things to do in and around Srinagar in no sequence. All of these are must.
1. Dal Lake sunset
2. Shikara ride at Dal Lake
3. Stay at a House boat in Dal lake(a rare experience like no other)
4. Visit Gulmarg and trek up to the top and come down through ropeway.(1 day independent trip)
5. Visit Sonamarg and enjoy Maggi and masala chai on the snow. You can visit Patni top, Pehalgaon on your way to or from jammu. Also, you must try classical Dogri dish i.e. Rajma Chawal with desi ghee and Anar dana chutney.
