February can still be hit or miss in parts of the US depending on the weather. I'd say your best bet is later in the month after the middle of February. The Northeast and Midwest might still get some snow early in the month. By waiting until the second half, you decrease the chances of bad weather interfering with your travel plans. You'll also miss most of the busiest ski season crowds this way. Another bonus is that the weather is warming up in Southern states like Florida and Texas by then. Have a great trip!
