To reach the forest, you will have to reach Chidambaram, the nearest town. You can take a cab and reach here from Chidambaram in Rs. 800 (round trip). For a cheaper option, consider hopping onto the local buses that ply between Chidambaram and Pichavaram Forest. The one-way ticket will cost you just Rs. 10. Buses run hourly, but it may be difficult to find a bus after 9:00 pm. To reach Cidambaram via local transport, you can either take a train or a bus. Hey Vijay, Trichy is absolutely stunning, some trekking routes near the town are Thalaimalai Hills (67km away), Yercaud (169km away) and Pachamalai (88km away). A few trek routes are located slightly away from Trichy, so they aren't ideal for a day trip, but you can easily head to one of these for a weekend getaway.
