Overview

Hampta Pass is located in the Spiti and Kullu Valley. The Hampta Pass is at an altitude of 4227 mt and the total distance covered is approximately 50 km. This trek comes in the moderately difficult category of treks and it is suggested that anyone who wants to do this trek should first do an easy trek like Triund. Itinerary
  • Trek starts round 9:00 am from Manali, drive down to Prini Village
  • The climb starts from here and is a gradual ascend for about three hours till Hampta and Sethan Village
  • The next 45 minutes walk is through Alpine forests to Panduropa
  • This place is known for the small paddy field where Pandavas spent a part of time during their exile
  • The next part of trek is through dense forest with abundant flowers till the campsite at Chikka
  • Overnight camping
  • Depart from Chikka, following the left banks of Hamta, we cross the Hamta stream by a bridge
  • The area is surrounded by rocky mountains
  • After crossing the second stream, the climb is gentle for about two hours
  • On the way, you have to pass a waterfall, again next in line is a stream crossing just before Jwara
  • Here, onwards the trail gently climbs to Balu ka Gera
  • From here, the first view of Hampta Pass is visible
  • It is a beautiful campsite close to crystal water stream
  • The area is known as Bear's Den, keep your exploring the surroundings you might just see a bear
  • Overnight camping
  • After breakfast, the trek starts with a gradual climb
  • Balu ka Gera is known for wild flowers, rocks and caves
  • A further trek of about one and half hour trail takes you to Hampta Pass
  • From Hampta Pass, you can see the fantastic Inderkilla, Deo Tibba and Indrasan
  • After crossing the Hampta Pass, we enter the Lahaul Valley
  • Walk down to the campsite near the stream
  • Overnight camping
  • Cross the stream near the camp and follow the right bank till it joins with the Chandra River
  • Again cross the same stream by a small wooden bridge, following the left bank of Chandra River
  • It will take about 30 minutes and you will reach the motorable bridge to cross over to the campsite at Chattru
  • Overnight stay at the campsite
  • After breakfast, pick up will be available to drive you back to Manali via Rohtang Pass
