Day 1

As always sudden trip plans creates memories.

Me and my cousin decided to cover winter chitkul. We left delhi at 10:00PM and decided to reach chitkul without night stay anywhere due to shortage of leaves so it was a weekend trip and one leave already applied.

We reached shimla at 3 am and decided to take rest as there was a foggy night and morning with snowcapped mountains.

After that we reached kufri and had breakfast

After crossing deadliest road of the kinnaur we reached chitkul after 18 hr drive.

Chitkul is located roughly around 600 kilometers from Delhi; about 350 kilometers from Chandigarh; and about 250 kilometers from Shimla. It is a 2 days journey from Delhi; and one day from Shimla.

How to reach chitkul via shimla ?

Delhi – Chandigarh – Shimla – Narkanda – Rampur – Jeori – Karcham – Sangla – Rakcham – Chitkul.

The entire journey will be of about 570 – 600 kilometers, depending upon where you started from in Delhi; and it will take you at least 2 days to reach Chitkul.

If you are drive continuous it will hardly take 18 hrs which we did from delhi.

If you were planning a winter trip, then ensure that you are carrying all heavy woolens, waterproof gloves and waterproof shoes (so you can walk in snow if required). Also make sure that your jacket has a hood to protect your head, neck, and face. Do note though that by a winter trip, I mean visiting towards late March or early April when the road to Chitkul had just opened.

It was very cold night temperature was dropped at -18 and Old monk is survivor for us.

We woke up early and setup our tripod to capture timelapse and photographs.

There is only one stay option available in chitkul i.e Thakur Guest House although you can find alternate option 12kms before in Sangla a small beautiful town.
