Lamayuru, Magnetic hill & Pathar Sahib Gurudwara - Ladakh road trip - Chapter 5

Tripoto
25th Sep 2019

It was our day 6th and according to the plan, Saurabh, Akash and Sagar joined us from Agra. Frankly, I felt like all photographers club of Agra came here, however they actually came with GPF group.

Basically the plan was to have a road trip to Lamayuru on Bullet and since day was kind of clear we hoped to see our Galaxy one more time with different landscape. Yeah, after the yesterday's experience we claimed ourselves as Galaxy chasers :D

On the way we stopped at the place called Magnetic hill. It is around 26 km west of Leh. A common rumor which was spread here is that road is Uphill and cars and bikes are attracted towards the hill and defy the Earth gravity. The fact is, layout of this area and surrounding slops create an optical illusion, it appears that we are going uphill but infact we roll downhill and even we know this, we still love to be idiots and enjoyed this place. We did the same what all do here. Stopped our car and bikes, put gears in neutral and viola... it seems we going uphill :D ... Super funny!

(Oh yes... silly us :D... frankly, I was the one who was encouraging all of them :D)

Just after Magnetic hill, there comes confluence of River Indus and Zanskar. Rafting is popular here and I guess it is the highest rafting point in India. I mean we are at 3500 meters above sea level... right!

We stopped at Saspol and had our lunch at "cafe de saspol". You guys can also try it, food is good here and almost everything is available. You just name it.

After Saspol, I took a ride on Bullet here. God... how much I missed riding two wheeler?... this is i got to know when I was giving accelerator and reaching at the speed of 80 km/hr on those windy yet smooth roads... At that moment I had thought like 100s of time to purchase a Royal Enfield bike for me as soon as I reach to Agra. That another thought and blog to ponder on what I did in near future after I came back from ladakh :D...

(Ahh... what a joy and something running in my mind)

Right now, let's come back to the current topic... We reached to Lamayuru almost right at the time to get our desired photos and Videos. We quickly booked a place for staying here and that was Amchi Guest house and ofcourse that comes up as it is located right at the point from where we would be doing our Star trails photography.

At Lamayuru the main attraction is Lamayuru monastery which is the oldest in Ladakh and I must say it is the favorite jaunt for Photographers and inquisitive travelers. In night we did saw our Galaxy and made star trails photos and we all were kind of late to sleep.

(Our milky way again)

In morning we planned to see Lamayuru monastery and it's nearby area called Moonland due to it's odd geographical formation but all of our time drained out in finding Kuldip wallet and that too we couldn't find... yeah it was very stressful for Kuldip but we have no other option but to leave Lamayuru without seeing other locations.

Money is important ofcourse and more important to that was documents, you know those I.D cards, Adhar card, Driving licence and all. Coping with Govt. official for these things again is real pain in ass in Asian countries for sure. I don't know if it can work or not, but let me try it...Kuldip looks like -

(Handsome hunk is my brother - Kuldip)

and if any of you find, let us know :D

We stopped at same place in saspol to have our lunch and Kuldip remained silent. Yes, I agree it is kind of a jerk we all get when something is lost. I remember the same happened with me at Mount Everest base camp when I lost my Gopro camera in which I lost 3 days recordings...

and we given time to Kuldip to recover from it. Men are like this... when any problem comes, they go into their cave to find solution of it. They don't like to talk, they don't like to listen solutions from others, they just want to alone.

I also agree if they are given too much of time, then they start floating in the ocean of depression... which we can't allow him to swim in this trip.

So Puneet after 2-3 hours started teasing Kuldip which was absolutely necessary and I kept pressing Puneet to don't stop by my Laugh and soon we saw Kuldip coming out from his cave as there is no solution for this kind of problem.

And he don't have to worry about anything, we were with him in his up and down. I feel this what friendship is... am I right? Ofcourse I am :P

(Trying to take him back to track)

Let's come back to the trip. On our way back to Leh, we stopped at Pathar Sahib Gurudwara. According to history Guru Nanak, An enlightened master came here in 1517 AD and took rest here. Locals see him as God since so much energies was flowing from him. But how locals got to know about it... I feel the statement of Jesus should work here when he said "Only child like are allowed in God's Kingdom"... and People of mountains are really innocent beings...they are child like. Believe me on this, I come to Himalayas now and then just because of this reason also.

So these local people seen Guru Nanak as different entity and requested him to save them from a Notorious bandit or something like that... Must Osama bin laden of that time... Guru Nanak agreed to help and stopped at this place to meditate... That demon mentality tried to kill Guru Nanak by throwing a Big Boulder at him. The moment that big boulder touched Guru Nanak, it melted !!! ...

The boulder can be seen in this Gurudwara. And what about that Demon? oh... he changed... he become one of his loyal lover and became a saint!!!

There was no Gurudwara till 1970, Govt. was trying to make road over it earlier but was not able to make it. Engineers tried many time to build road over this place but then Lamas and monks came and tried to tell government what had happened here. Army took the charge over hearing these stories and found that boulder and made a Gurudwara in 1970s.

and yes, photography is not allowed inside the premises, but do go there. It is very peaceful place.

After this we went straight to Leh main bazaar and met other GPF group members - Navin vatsa sir, Amit Vakil Sir, Dr. Ashish sir, Shubham and many others. And I tried my best to influence Amit sir to give a tip in photography for all of you. (Do check video for that)

Later in evening we planned to shoot Leh city from different angle for which we have to do a difficult trek. Please check video for it from where we tried to click it. Though it was kind of late the moment we reach there.
