Norway in a Nutshell Part-1

Finally when i Selected Norway as my honeymoon destination over the usual Maldives, Paris, Rome, Seychelles etc, I was asked many questions like are you crazy to go to such a cold place? Don't go there it will be too cold, you may freeze out. Why do you go Norway if you are not planning to witness the Northern Lights or snow filled destination.

I was calm and had stuck to my decision of Going to Norway for a 9 day trip in the month of September, which marks the beginning of Autumn season. This Trip is famously known as Norway in a nutshell where one explores the Western Fjords via Train, Road and Ferry. This is a trip you can complete in a single day or just spread out like me and explore each place you stay.

So i had combined almost two three nutshell trips and customized into my own Nutshell Trip. I had made sure i do the booking using the Norway websites and this experience made me learn new things.

We flew from Bangalore to Oslo as our destination and our trip begins from Bangalore Airport.

Alluring Oslo

Oslo is a fantastic place to visit with lot of Musuems to explore around. We had decided to stay at Malmoya Islands in Oslo to excape from the busy city life. The views from the place of our stay was amazing as we could see the Oslofjord from our stay.

Things We did:

1) Visited the controversial Vigelanden Park. A Park consisting of sculptures created by a single artist. 

Time required: Half a Day to explore Peacefully.

Charges: Free of Charge

2) Crab Sunset Cruise on the Oslo Fjord. The Trip started at 5pm and it is a 3 hours trip. We were lucky since in Autmun sun sets are around 8 to 9PM in Norway which left us with amazing views of the Fjord.

3) Mathellan Oslo

Social Eating Dine out place in Oslo, in other terms a food street where you can pick any dishes from the stalls in the Dineout Arena and sit down and eat peacefully.

Scenic Flam

One of the most scenic Train rides in Northern Europe and around the world.

The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord, up to the high mountains at Myrdal station. The journey features the finest aspects of the stunning scenery of Western Norway.

We had booked the train ride from Oslo to Flam using NSB website. The train runs from Oslo to Myrdal which is a beautiful scenic ride followed by the flamsbana railways from Myrdal to Flam.

The Flamsbana rail ride is amazing as we witness wide landscapes of waterfalls and mountain peaks. the train has a stop in the waterfall where we witness a old lady singing on the top near the waterfalls. There is a belief that the old lady lures young boys using her seductive voice and dance. The ride is spectacular and one cannot keep his eyes closed through out the journey.

The First leg of our Trip was around in the Norwegian Train and this was an extremely beautiful experience. I would like to continue the next leg of our Trip of exploring the Fjords via Norled in the next Article.
