High Altitude Zoo

Pt GB Pant High Altitude Zoo Nainital is located at an elevation of 6,900 feet above sea level in Uttarakhand. It was opened to the public in the year 1995. It is sprawled across an area of 11 acres. Nestled amidst the snow-capped peaks of Himalayas, it has become a popular tourist destination. Approximately 1,25,000 tourists visit this Nainital Altitude Zoo every year. The zoo was home to the only Siberian Tiger of India. Other animals like Royal Bengal tiger, Tibetan wolves and Himalayan bear are also present here. The place is a great spot for bird-watching. High-altitude birds like Lady Amherst pheasant, golden pheasant and red junglefowl are found here. The zoo is closed on Mondays. Pt GB Pant High Altitude Zoo Nainital is located at a distance of 2 km from Tallital Bus Station. Tourists can walk through the steep route leads up to the zoo.

Nainital's Zoo is slightly different from all others as it is built on a slope, a phenomenon not seen in many zoos. It was a newly built zoo at the time of my visitation, scope of expansion was still there and new animals were to be set in.

It was time to experience some wildlife. Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo is a high altitude zoo situated on the Sher Ka Danda hill at a height of 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) above sea-level. The only High Altitude Zoo in north India, besides those in Darjeeling and Sikkim. AMAZING! Isn't it?
