Pondicherry, the union territory of India, located on the southeast coast of India and is a tourist destination in India. Along the history, it is also known as "Puducherry" and "Pondy". In Tamil "Puducherry" means "New Town". the French East India Company set up a trading centre at Pondicherry and this outpost eventually became the chief French settlement in India. Pondicherry is surrounded by the state of Tamilnadu with which it shares most of its culture and language.
Puducherry is a well-connected city by all means of transportation, it also had daily bus service from almost all main stops of Chennai. Puducherry is connected to Chennai via Mahabalipuram. The city has many colonial buildings, temples, statues containing French style avenues in the old part of the building. Its French bequest is preserved in its French Quarter, three-lined streets and mustard-coloured colonial villas... Stunning yellow buildings marked with white outlines arrayed gracefully, narrating the tale of the French. French Quarter is the allure of Puducherry.
I was at Promenade Beach, popularly known as Rock Beach. Beach welcomes you with a French war memorial and some cultural events conducted probably once in a week(Sundays), well-set trade centres for general shopping. It is the best place to spend the Night exploring Museums, French architectural buildings in the French Quarter around the Rock Beach. I spent almost all night sitting on the beach, visiting museums, French Quarter, Books stores, enjoying the cultural events, seeing at the kids having fun alongside the beach. This is the best place one can spend a night in Pondy.
Pondicherry Museum, Osudu Lake, Bharathi park, French war memorial, Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Botanical Garden, Vedapureeswarar Temple are some among the places in Pondicherry you can never miss a visit. The Matrimandir is a structure of spiritual significance for practitioners for the Internal yoga, in the centre of Auroville the mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It is the soul of the city and is situated in the large open space. Visits to the Matrimandir and the viewing points are free of cost. You have to keep in mind before you visit this place that It is a place which should be visited in a quiet physical and mental state.
A Paradise you need to visit before you leave Pondicherry, that is Paradise Beach, place justifies the name paradise. It is 15 kms away from the main city of Pondicherry, which takes about 20 mins from Pondicherry. It is worth a visit for the morning sunrise along the villages covered in greenery, Coconut trees... You will feel like in paradise having the site of the beach through the coconut trees. This is also the main place from where fishermen go into the sea for fishing, you can find their boats along the beach.
A beautiful place to hangout for a weekend along with friends. Missing sunrise in the beach would be a foolish thing, those who love sunrises will understand this better. Experience sunrise in Paradise Beach.
