The city might not be in immediate danger but rapid melting of icebergs in Greenland will have impact on the Manhattan city of New York in near future. The rising sea level, flooding and storm surge are the key climatic problems in the region. The rising temperature poses heath risks for resident population that ranges from asthma and allergies to other serious health hazards.
CHAIR-FUL IN NEW YORKA few years back, I stood outside the prestigious New York Comedy Club thinking to myself, “This is it!” I had been looking forward to performing there for weeks, and had finally managed to get a small slot at their 5 pm open mic. I entered the room to notice a small audience of 12 people and wondered, “This is it?” Apparently, they weren’t the audience either; they were the other comedians from the line-up. This was a moment of revelation: The number of struggling comedians in New York is more than the number of plot holes in Batman Vs Superman. My first show in New York was really in front of empty chairs (and surprisingly, they didn’t laugh even once). It was a disappointing first-time experience but I did the clever thing of taking a photo on stage and posting it on social media, so people thought that I had an insane show. Later that week I did perform for an audience and had a great time, but stories about failure are always fun to tell.If you see him running around and shrieking backstage, don’t assume that he has ‘lost it’. That’s Sapan venting out his nervousness before the show.
New York City is the largest city in the United States – with 8 million people chasing after something. It is my hometown, so you might say I am biased in my assessment of New York being the greatest city on Earth. I have been to cities large and small on every continent (except Australia – getting there!) and I am yet to experience a city like New York. Paris may be the most visited city on Earth but it does not hold a candle to New York and what New York offers. New York is indeed a city that never sleeps. You can do anything you want in New York at any time of day or night: Feel like going to a party at 10 in the morning? There’s one just getting started. Feeling sick from all that alcohol you’ve consumed? There’s a 24-hour drug store. Had a fight with your girlfriend at 2 in the morning and want to buy her flowers at 3 a.m.? There’s the florist selling flowers at that hour. Feel like breakfast at any hour of the day? You got it. Want to see a show? No problem. On and on. The city brims with excitement. And there’s so much free stuff happening in the city, it’s amusing to me that people say New York is expensive. It is to tourists who don’t do their homework – or know a local connected and in-the-know. The excitement from people chasing after something in New York indeed never stops.
