Avani is an underrated place near Bangalore. Located in Kolar district, there is a Ramalingeshwara Temple in Avani which is very beautiful. There is a hill called Avani Betta which is the birth place of Lava Kusha, you will also find Sita house tour, Valmiki ashram. This is a must visit tourist place near Kolar which within 100km from Bangalore.
We started in the afternoon as we planned to see the sunset and not much traffic in Kolar roads on weekend. Road condition is good. So many options for pitstop for tea/coffee break. You have to take 6Kms from Kolar road for Avani hill base. Prefer to reach by car or bike as public transport will not synchronize with your energy and excitement vs. travel time. We travelled with 2 kids(5 & 6 yrs). Hiking was not that difficult ,kids did it effortlessly.
Avani mean mother earth. If you have idea of Ramayana of Uttarakaanda, maybe you can co-relate the story topics and what you see. Per Ramayana sub-stories links in the place of current location at Amritsir, so I leave the belief and divinity to the visitors. The entire hills links sub-stoies of Ramayana.
Avani is mostly known to the childless couples who visit this place to receive the blessing from Goddess Parvati but what is not known to many is that this is the same place where the great sage Valmiki had his Ashram during the treta yuga and this place is also mentioned in the Uttara Ramayana written by sage Valmiki.
• There is a Room where Luv Kush were born
• Sita ji kuteer with utensils used and kids jhula
• The place where the horse was tied by Luv Kush during Ashwamedha Yagya
• Place where Sita jee sat and witnessed the battle between Luv Kusha and brothers of Lord Rama
• Sita jee went inside the earth after handing over Luva Kush to Lord Rama
• Group of Ramalingeswara temples dating back to 10th Century
• This place is also mentioned in Mahabharatha as the place where Pandavas spent some time of their exile (the Agyaatvaas!)
If you are a person who loves mythology or the one who is interested in trekking, or someone like us who just wanted to get away from the city's buzz, this place is a must visit. Sunset & Sunrise is so beautiful here.
Wish the local government implement plastic carrying to hills and provide trash cans. Not advised to climb for elderly peoples. No issues to go with kids but not infants due to too hot in some locations with no shades available. Entire walkway is not shaded, wear a sun hat or carry an umbrella. Its hot most time of the year. Carry enough water and may be Fruit juices/Electrol on sunny days and food to have at hills, if you wish. No shops are available on the hills. No rest rooms on the way.
We preferred afternoon as there will be less sun and it was bit cloudy too and easily doable by kids. You will need maximum 2 hours to reach the hill top with visiting all places and taking rest. Or you directly reach the peak in max 40 mins and visit places while descending.
The trip can be clubbed with Mulbagal temple, Koladevi temple, Virupakhsi temple and Markandeya temple.
Shivani's Dhaba is where we stopped for early dinner while coming back, but there are a lot of dhabas and restaurants available.
Thanks for reading.
