One of the most pleasing experiences might be witnessing spirituality in its simplest form, though differently, in one of the Holiest cities of Madhya Pradesh, India - Onkareshwar.

The main Onkareshwar Temple, as seen from the Old Bridge

Because 'Ghats' are everything...

Located almost close to the center of India, this place is worth for the Ghats. All the temples here are up and down, right and left, over and above the ghats, and are meticulous.

Its mind blowing to walk through the narrow lanes, and you may just end up at a Ghat !

Because you can literally see one of the largest 'Om' here...

As you proceed towards the main land, one cannot miss the Om sign of white against the brown clad land. Walk from the place where the Autos leave you, and over the Old Bridge (thats over the Narmada River) to the main land, and midway you get to see the Om.

Because the Colorful Narrow Lanes are bliss...

Colors elevate the mood, and so does it add to the chanting and bustle in the lanes. Somehow, you believe the fact that this seems necessary before you head for a Darshan.

Because the Old Bridge is one of the best stands for Photography and a 360 degree view...

The Old Bridge connects the entry land to the Main land. As you walk along the Bridge, you might feel for yourself  entering a different world.

The Bridge has children running around, hawkers trying to create a pitch, and some of the under privileged trying to make a living.

Because the Waters are reflection of the Sky, Clean & Clear....

One of the best things about understanding a place, is to see the waters from far and near. I was at this particular point on a ghat, and must say, although a crowded spiritual place visited by so many devotees day in and day out, you would expect non-clear waters and a bit of garbage around. However, that was not the case here, and a plus point to Onkareshwar for this :)

Because there are Temples and Gufas....

There are 2 main temples which you can visit and are worth - the Main Onkareshwar Temple, and the Mamleshwar Temple. Situated on either sides of the land, these temples compliment each other.

A typical line can take more than an hours time to reach the ultimate point

Do take note of the carvings

I had planned my destination Onkareshwar after visiting Maheshwar, and the way was ;

Maheshwar >> Barwaha >> Mortakka >> Onkareshwar.

A bus can be changed at Barwaha which crosses through Mortakka and you reach Onkareshwar in around 3 hours from Maheshwar.

Once you reach the Onkareshwar bus stand, you can avail the sharing Autos (Rs. 10 per seat) upto the gate of the Old Bridge to cross over to the main Om land.

Its best to visit Mamleshwar temple at the end of your trip around Onkareshwar, as you can make it walking to one of the bus stands (smaller bus stand, next to the Post office) in around 20 mins, or else you can take the sharing Auto. A signage at the other exit of Mamleshwar temple helps. Advantage is you can take a bus to Khandwa which is the closest known junction to Onkareshwar.

The Stand on the right depicting the bus stand (this is at the back side of Mamleshwar Temple, what can be seen straight in the picture is the Mamleshwar Temple

Since you come all the way to Onkareshwar, it would be worth to see all the temples around for an Auto Rickshaw price stated as Rs. 300. Around 6 - 7 temples are believed to be shown around, however I managed to see 2 on my own accord (the above temples), and made my way to an another amazing place Burhanpur (post to be coming up soon).

Some other notable captures...

Seems more of a wedding arrangement, but are the coverings for the vendors along the temple

At the end of your visit to any place, its good to treat yourself once in a way. Have some Khasta !
