The government of Jammu and Kashmir has set a great example by opting for electric buses for state transport under a central scheme. As India enters the crucial stage of deciding on its future, this move is a great example of how states can adopt a sustainable alternative to protect the environment.

So far 10 electric buses have been procured by the J&K State Road Transport Corporation. The plan is to add 30 more buses so that the roads are flooded with zero-emission vehicles.

However, as a part of the Model Code of Conduct, the buses will start operating commercially after the Lok Sabha Elections.

The buses can cover a distance of 150 kilometres on a single charge. It takes approximately two to three hours to charge the vehicle.

With the country facing stiff environmental challenges, this move by the state of J&K is a step in the direction of securing India's environmental future.
