Overview

An easy trek for mountain lovers of all kinds, this trek is full of dense forests made of red and pink rhododendrons in summer time while winters are a hazy shade. You will see views of the majestic Chandrashila Peak on the whole trek route. Camping by the enchanting Deoriatal lake side, you will experience a true sense of solitude.

The famous Tungnath Temple – Highest Shiva Temple in the Pancha Kedar is another highlight of this trek.

Don’t forget the massive birding opportunities in Chopta. Himalayan Monal and other himalayan bird species will leave you spellbound. This trek is a complete ‘Himalayan Experience’ in its true sense.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Dehradun to Sari (Altitude: 6,601 ft. /7-8 hour drive)
  • Sari, the base camp of the Deoriatal-Chandrashila trek, is an 8 hour drive from Haridwar. The journey is picturesque, as you pass through Devaprayag, the confluence of rivers Alakananda and Bhagirathi to form river Ganga. The entire journey traverses the mountain side, with the river flowing below you. Quick tip: Pick the window seat on the right to enjoy the views! Sari is a small village with around 100 houses. The views around the village are gorgeous!
  • Day 2: Sari to Deoriatal (Altitude: 7,841 ft. /3 km, approx 2 hours)
  • We start today’s trek with a gradual climb on a well-defined rocky trail, which becomes steeper after the first 10 minutes. Short descent to the camp site after an hour of climbing. After a very short downhill trek, your surroundings open up to a grand view of Deoriatal, with Mt. Chaukhambha massifs looming in the background.
  • Day 3: Deoriatal to Chopta (Altitude: 8,790 ft. / 16km, approx 8-9 hours)
  • Post breakfast, we start our longest day of the whole trek. Although this is a long walk it is a rolling terrain. have lunch enroute a lovely forest trail. Full of rhododendron and maple trees, the trail is a picturesque one. Overnight in Chopta.
  • Day 4: Chopta Circuit and rest day
  • This day is specifically kept reserved for exploring Chopta. It is a quaint little village nestled in between famous Himalayan peaks. We go for short trail in and around this village. This short trail is very picturesque one. Every now and then, the Kedar Dome and Chaukhamba peaks peek at you through the trees. Ample opportunities to explore the Himalayan birds and mammals. return to our campsite for a late lunch. Enjoy the peace and serenity. Overnight in Chopta.
  • Day 5: Chopta to Chandrashila Peak via Tungnath and back to Chopta (Altitude: 12,083 ft. /8 km, 4 hours)
  • Today is the most important day of your trek. We will be climbing the Chandrashila peak today. We start very early to enjoy sunrise from the summit. The climb is moderate till Tunganath Temple followed by steep climb to Chandrashila for about 45 minutes. Enjoy almost 360 degree view of all famous Himalayan peaks such Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, Hathi Ghoda and Nanda Devi.
  • Day 6: Depart for Dehradun (7-8 hour drive)
  • Post breakfast, board your jeeps from here for a drive back to Haridwar/Rishikesh/Dehradun. You will reach Haridwar/Rishikesh/Dehradun between 6.00 and 7.00 pm. Trek ends.
