Overview

Popularly known as the Curzon trail and in the heart of the Chamoli district of Garhwal the pass reaches an elevation of 4265m / 13990ft. This is a easy to moderate trek and passes through dense forests of oak, pine, rhododendron, fir and deodar and traverses Bugyals and numerous streams. The trail has the most enchanting views of the eastern Himalayan peaks in and around Nanda Devi Sanctuary.

Itinerary
  • Day 01: Haridwar/Dehradun to Joshimath (274 kms drive, approx 10 hours)
  • Trekkers will be picked from Haridwar or Dehradun and we will proceed to Joshimath. You can arrive one day prior if you wish. We will have breakfast and lunch on the way. Arrive at Joshimath by 05:00 pm. Have tea and freshen up. We will have a briefing session along with our lunch. Overnight at Joshimath in a rest house.
  • Day 02: Joshimath – Gulling Top (Altitude: 9600 ft. /12 kms drive and 6 kms trek, approx 4 hrs)
  • Today is the first day of your trek. We will start from Joshimath post breakfast. After a short drive of 12 km we will begin our trek from Dhak village. The trail is a mix of steep and gradual ascent, mostly through villages. Enjoy amazing views of peaks – Dronagri, Hathi Parvat, Gori Parvat. Hot lunch awaits at your campsite. Free time post lunch. Overnight stay in tents.
  • Day 03: Gulling Top to Tali Forest Camp or Lower Khulara camp (Altitude 11070 ft. /4 km trek, approx 5 hrs)
  • Post breakfast, we will begin the second day of our trek. Today’s trek is easy but involves steep ascent. After walking for 1 km we will reach Forest Hut which is the last water point.From Forest hut our trail turns into a steep ascent. After 2 km of continuous ascent we will reach Tali lake. From here we enter forests of Oak, Rhododendron (mostly pink and white) and walnut trees. Depending upon the speed and stamina we will decide whther to set up camp in Tali forest or move ahead to Khulara campsite. Overnight accommodation in tents.
  • Day 04: Tali forest camp to Kuari pass and back via Khulara top (Altitude 12,763 ft. /12 km trek, approx 10 hrs)
  • Today is the longest yet most exciting day of our trek. We have an early breakfast today and start our trek. Today’s trail starts with a moderate ascent till Khulara Top. After about 3-3.5 km climb we get relief as the trail is now a traverse walk from Khulara to a broken bridge. From here starts the strenuous climb to Kuari Pass. It is 1.5 km climb but it is worth the effort. From the Pass you will get to see a 360 degree view of all the famous peaks in the surrounding region like Kedarnath, Kedardome, Chaukhambha, Balakun, Neel Kantha, Mukut Parvat, Kamet, Abhi Gamin, Mana I, Ghori Parvat, Hathi Parvat, Dronagiri, Kalanka, Chang Bang, Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghunti. After spending some time at the pass and enjoying the snow we will begin our descent to Khulara Top campsite or if possible Tali Forest campsite. Overnight accommodation in tents.
  • Day 05: Tali forest camp/Lower Khulara camp – Joshimath via Gurson bugyal and Auli (10 km trek, approx 7 hrs, 13 km drive)
  • We begin our last leg of the trek today. Today is the most scenic route of the trek. We will move towards Tali Lake and from there we will trek for approximately 3 km to reach the famous Gurson Bugyal. Lush green meadows with tall snow peaks in the background will make todays route your perfect post card picture. After crossing Gurson Bugyal we will further move towards Auli which a hill station and also the end point of our trek. From here a short 13 km drive will take us back to Joshimath. Overnight accommodation in rest house in Joshimath.
  • Day 06: Joshimath/Auli to Haridwar/Dehradun (274 km drive, approx 10 hrs)
  • Early morning departure by private vehicle to Haridwar/Dehradun. Reach Haridwar/Dehradun in the evening.
