Graves Mountain Lodge for a Family Reunion

My stay at Graves Mountain Lodge was for a family reunion, but the area is full of opportunities for hiking and exploring the outdoors.

This was my starting point.
Delicious baked goods, prepared sandwiches and soups. Stop here to stock up on treats.
My family stayed in the Lower Cabin, which sleeps 18. I've heard the food while staying in the main lodge is very hit or miss. It's a beautiful area with a pool, a nice swimming hole, horseback riding, soccer fields, a playground, a petting zoo, some orchards, etc. There is no cell reception in this area.
The hike to the first waterfall is a gradual climb and about a mile and a half. It's dog-friendly, unlike Old Rag - and much easier too. If it has rained be aware that you may have to ford a couple of streams. There are lots of rocks on the trail so be careful if you have ankle problems. The hike is within Shenandoah National Park. Be sure to get there early to find parking!
