About Guptkashi

In terms of its religious significance, Guptkashi is considered second only to Varanasi. The ancient Vishwanath Temple here, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is similar to the Kashi Temple in Varanasi. The other popular temple is Ardhanareshwar, which is dedicated to a deity of the same name, who is supposed to a half man and half women representing Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Guptkashi is located on the way to Kedarnath, in the Northern Himalayan belt. It lies within the Mandakini river valley, which is a beautiful lush green forest. The sweet scent in the air here is because of the large Magnolia trees that are found in abundance here. This town is situated on the NH109 and is approachable via its neighbouring cities and states through a well-maintained network of roads. If you plan on travelling via railways, the nearest railway station is Rishikesh and is about 168km from Guptkashi.
