In January, Dharamshala and Mcleodganj witnesses extremely cold weather. You might not find snow in the lower regions and Mcleodganj's mall road, but nearby areas like Triund trekking route will be packed with snow. You can visit monasteries such as Tsuglagkhang Complex Dalai Lama, Namgyal Monastery and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Main Temple. Other sightseeing destinations to explore are Naddi, Dal Lake and Bhagsunag Falls. Make sure to pack thick jackets as the weather is extremely cold.

Always check the weather forecast if you are travelling to mountains in winters. Dharamshala is very good place, you can see snow capped peaks of Dhauladhar range but if weather forecast is showing sunny or hazy day then its worth visit otherwise its not.

Dharamshala has freezing winters, with the temperature dropping below -1 degree. However, if you enjoy the winters then you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the snow covered mountains. You should definitely carry a lot of woolens, and other necessities to help you beat the cold and enjoy the place.
