During the winters, Spiti turns into a snowy wonderland. You can either embark on a simple snow expedition in Spiti or make things more challenging by embarking on a snow leopard expedition. If you are a good driver who loves travelling off-road, then Spiti can offer you the perfect challenge. You can take the route to Spiti via Kinnaur, as the roads there are known to be winding while offering spellbinding views of snow-clad mountains. Make sure to ask about the road conditions to locals, as the roads tend to get blocked due to snow. Kinnaur and Spiti witnesses harsh winters, so it's suggested that you should travel in a 4X4 SUV or other sturdier cars. In fact, there are plenty of tour operators taking tour groups for snow expedition in Spiti. That's another better option if you are not comfortable with driving car on your own on such routes.

Since the place is almost landlocked due to heavy snow cover, be prepared for a tough trip physically as well as mentally. Duration of winter: Winters in Spiti extend for 5 months i.e. from October to February. Average Temperature: The average temperatures range between 0°C in the day to around -40°C in the night.
