For Indian nationals permit to enter Sikkim is not needed. However if you are visiting protected area then, you have to obtain permit. Say if you are visiting Nathula pass, Yumthang valley and Gurudongmar lake.

Sikkim is much better than Darjiling. there is no need for any permit. good atmosphere, less crowd, piece in nature and beautiful scenic views.
