The Gateway of India is rightfully regarded as Mumbai's character. It was constructed at the turn of the twentieth century to honor the reception of King George V, the first British emperor. This protective monument is influenced by 16th-century Gujarati architecture and is located on Ramchandani Road near Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Chowk in the heart of Mumbai. The Indo-Islamic design can also be seen in the arched monument of the Gateway of India. The monument's foundation stone was laid in March 1913, and it was finished in 1924. The building is constructed of basalt and is 85 feet high.
