While traveling to Ladakh in December, it is safe to assume that it will definitely snow at high altitude passes. There is a high possibility that you are in Nubra Valley and cannot return to Leh because Khardung La will be all snowed out and blocked. Same thing applies for places like Pangong and Moriri. You can visit till Manali with no such difficulty.

Won't suggest ladakh road trip as its winter time and roads are closed but yes kashmir or himachal is a better option during winter.

Do not try road trips this year so soon as different states have different covid regulations
