Hi Roger, I would suggest you checkout Sri Lanka. We recently been there for 6N7D and it was amazing. We only spent Rs 2.10 L for 5 people for 6 nights including airfare.

I'd suggest a visit to either China or Japan! Great place for back packers with rich cultural history

Apart from Thailand, Vietnam & Cambodia which I'm sure others will suggest, I recommend Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos...Visa is on arrival... I visited this amazing country in November 2018...Buddha Park in Vientiane & Kuang Si Falls in Luang Prabang are 2 spectacular & unique attractions in Laos.

The Philippines is one of my favorite international destinations. If you're watching your budget, stay within one province, since traveling between islands costs extra fees. There are so many undiscovered places to explore too. Caramoan Islands has got to be my favorite - you won't believe a place like that still exists until you see it yourself! Definitely recommend checking it out though, preferably with some friends. 😊
