Although most places do accept credit card, you should keep Baht on you. You would definitely want to purchase a lot of street food (fruits or mainly non vegetarian) or even just shop at nearby local markets and for that Baht is the only thing that will sell. You can withdraw there little by little if you have that provision as pickpocketing in busy streets is common and you don't want to have too much cash on you at once and in one place. Eating local food and shopping is what you will need cash for. oh and of course, tipping.

Hey, I just got back from a thailand trip last week! I'd applied for my Visa in advance as it is much cheaper and you don't have to wait in the long queues for voa at the airport after an exhausting flight journey! visa on arrival cost is 2000 baht which is around 4.5k! you also need to carry around 10k baht per person! either baht or dollars will do! (not inr) I'd suggest u to carry dollars and convert it to baht there ,you'll get better rates! also carry some baht for initial airport transfer and voa and day1 stuff!

I had been to Thailand in dec 2018. I suggest to carry atleast 10,000 baht per person. Many hotels do accept Cards, but street food, street shopping, cabs or taxis requires cash. Also VOA fee is about 2000baht which need to be paid in cash (For me in Dec2018, fee was waived off).
