Preparations for the Puri Rath Yatra start about four to months prior to the actual festival. Since the artisans are almost at the finalising stage of making the raths by July, you will only be able to see the raths being decorated. The entire process of making and decorating the process happens right outside the Jagannath Temple so head there to catch all the action.
