When you travel in Creta, road conditions won't be a problem... You can enter leh in three ways... One through Spiti Valley, another one by Manali Rhotang Pass and the other one from Sri Nagar... I was instructed to enter from Jammu- SriNagar- Zoji la- Kargil-Lamayuru- Leh, because in this route the altitude increases gradually, so the point of mountain sickness is zero here... The other route through Manali would be tough, for the reasons of sudden increase in altitude... The route through spiti is like wow and very scenic... Considering you travelling on the month of june, there won't be any problems with the roads... When ever you start, start early as possible because after 2 or 3 Ice melts a lot and thus the streams crossing the roads become harder to cross... So places to around leh would be... Kardung la, then the nubra valley, places like Diskit and Hunder are really good... Only in these places you could see a double hump camel... After that you can come back to leh and start towards pangong lake...From there you can reach Pang through Moore Plains , trust me these are the best plains you can ever see in life...Flats roads on the Himalayas... After which you can enter spiti and complete the ride... Happy Travelling :)
Thanks Siva, I have heard of 2 ways via Manali or Via Srinagar. Can you please brief a bit about the route via spiti. Also as I am the only driver how many days do you suggest i should plan to reach Leh.
Since Manali -Leh Rd. is going to open from 10th April, you can visit it from that side only. Day1 Chandigarh-Manali
Day2 Manali to Sarchu or camp at keylong instead of Manali.
Day3 Sarchu to Leh (book in advance to avoid the tourist rush)
Day4 rest and take a day or 2 in Leh.
Day6 Go to Nubra Valley for an excursion for 3days
Day6 Trek in Hemis Monastery for 2-3 days in homestays
Day9 you can also visit zanskar valley (through kargil take another 3 days) or try rafting in Indus
Day 10 return via Manali and before Manali take a left to batal to visit Chandrataal (excursion of 50km)and could also continue towards spiti valley
