Travel via train which passes through Pamban bridge. awesome view. Rameshwaram temple. If interested u can have bath in the 22 kind water. first have bath at agni teertham and then take ticket of 25 or 30 rs perhaps from temple for bath of 22 wells. Follow the queue. it is believed that Lord Ram bathed with waters of these kunds to free himself from sin of killing Ravan. Temple priests and some hotel staffs may suggest u to get the bath done in holy waters for few thousand rupees but not required. Follow the queue of temple and this can be done within 50 rs.
There are many other temples. You can hire a auto or cab. He will take u to all temples. one of the Hanuman temple is the highest point of Rameshwaram. Its said that Lord Hanuman jumped from this point to Lanka
There are temples with floating stones.
Vibhishan temple is on Dhanushkodi road.
Don't miss to visit Dhanushkodi. Its beautiful.

Apart from Rameshwaram temple ..Dhanushkodi is must visit place..Pamban bridge is another option there. Madurai:

Take a bath in that 22 kund sanan in rameshwaram temple , dhanushkodi, panch Mukhi Hanuman ji temple.
roads are good.

Recently I traveled from madurai to Rameshwaram. catch up a train at 6:30 am at Madurai station fare is 35 rs. you will have nice experience while traveling in train. the train passes on pamban bridge around 9 mins. it will be an amazing experience.
