From paltan bazar at guwahati you will get shared sumos, with 200rs per person, it takes 3 hr to reach. Prefer not to go after getting dark. All kinds of hotels are available in shilong starting with 500rs. In 08 days you can take time to explore cherapunji and other places in meghalaya.

U donot need 8 days in Shillong.. in 8 days u cn complete the whole Meghalaya state..see hotels in oyo.. and from Guwahati to cn go to shillong by Sumo from paltan bazar Astc
u cn visit laitlum for 1 day
cherrapunji for 1 day
jaintia hills for 1 day
dawki for 1 day
Mawyanym for 1 day.

Elephant Falls. Shillong Peak. Don Bosco Museum. Mawsynram.
Ward's Lake. David Scott Trail. Also spend a day in Guwahati to visit famous Kamakhya devi temple and also undertake dinner cruise on Brahmaputra river
You can further go and check Kaziranga National Park for 2 days .
