Sonmarg will definitely be covered in snow in December. The temperature in December is around -5 degree and can also drop below. Sonmarg is definitely the place to visit during winters. There are a lot of adventure activities to be done. However the security situation in Kashmir is not conducive for carefree travelling. Mobile connectivity is an issue. Travel safe.

Heavy snowfall during the winter months makes it completely inaccessible. The road from Srinagar to Sonamarg gets closed sometime in December and does not open until March. So if you want to enjoy some snow and possibly even catch a live snowfall, December and March are the best months to be heading towards Sonamarg.
