It depends upon the Person some takes 2 days to explore .some explore a very few places. the places you vist will decide how mutch days you need

2 day is sufficient. Shimla is very small place and you just need one/two day to visit the places there. However 3 days stay will be comfortable if you are going up to Kufri. But Shimla is too much crowded with travelers.

Maximum 2 days are enough..you can go for kasol and manali 2 days..thats better

For only shimla 2 days are enough but there's a lot to explore nearby so you should extend your trip and visit kufri

3 days would be sufficient to visit Shimla keeping in mind to explore all the main attraction point there and shopping for local sovenier there.
