Hey Abi, Barren Island is India's only active volcano and a restricted zone. Travellers can get a permit to visit the island from the Forest Department's office in Port Blair (INR 1,000 for Indian nationals and INR 3,500 for foreigners). However, landing on the island is completely prohibited and is punishable by law. Alternatively, you can also sign up for a day trip from Havelock or Port Blair. There are several tour operators that offer ferry and ship sightseeing tours of Barren Island. The 8-10 hour long tour will cost you anywhere between INR 3000-8000 per person, depending on the ship and operator.
