Reaching Leh-Ladakh can be an exciting journey, with several options depending on your location and preferences. Here’s how to reach Leh Ladakh: 1. By Air: Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) is the main airport in Leh, with regular flights from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Srinagar. Flying is the quickest and most convenient way to reach Leh, especially if you’re short on time. The flight duration from Delhi to Leh is around 1.5 to 2 hours, offering stunning aerial views of the Himalayan mountains. Once you arrive at the airport, taxis or private vehicles are available to take you to your accommodation. 2. By Road: Reaching Leh by road is a memorable adventure, but it’s only possible during the summer months (May to September) when the mountain passes are open. From Manali: The Manali-Leh Highway is a popular route, covering 474 km. It takes about 2 days to travel, with stops at places like Rohtang Pass, Sarchu, and Keylong. This is a more scenic but challenging route with high-altitude passes like Baralacha La and Lachung La. From Srinagar: The Srinagar-Leh Highway is another option, covering 434 km and taking about 2 days to reach Leh. The road passes through Zojila Pass, Drass, and Kargil, offering a different landscape with beautiful valleys and mountain views. 3. By Bus: State Transport Buses: The Jammu & Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) and Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) run buses from Srinagar and Manali to Leh. While this option is affordable, it’s time-consuming (about 2 days from Manali and 1-2 days from Srinagar) and requires you to travel in a group. 4. By Train: Leh doesn’t have a railway station, so traveling by train isn’t a direct option. However, you can take a train to Jammu or Srinagar and then drive to Leh from there. The nearest major railway station to Leh is Jammu Tawi, which is about 700 km away, and you can hire a taxi or take a bus to continue your journey.
