Darjeeling in December is a bad choice .. provided you like the cold and chilly weather Manali will be cold as well. Rest 2 places weather is manageable .

Hey Sharwari, I personally think you should separate Darjeeling from this list and treat it as a singular destination as it's actually quite far from Himachal Pradesh. Considering you're travelling by your own vehicle, you could follow this itinerary: Day 1: Chandigarh to Manali (8 - 9 hours journey) Day 2: Stay in Manali Day 3: Stay in Manali for another day or skip it (totally upto how you want your vacation to be) Day 4: Manali to Shimla(7 - 8 hours journey), explore Shimla Day 5: Shimla to Kalpa, your first village of Kinnaur (7 hours) Day 6: Kalpa to Chitkul, 2nd village of Kinnaur (2.5 hours) Day 7: Chitkul to Shimla (7-8 hours) Day 8: Shimla to Chandigarh (3.5 hours)

Visiting Manali, kinnaur at this time, would not be a great choice as weather will be very cold and roads may be blocked by the snow. I advise you to visit these places during March to May.

Darjeeling is near siliguri & chandigarh manali - kinnour is in himachal. that to chandigarh manali is different route & chandigarh shimla - narkanda - Kinnour is different route.

Not really. There is always a chance of snow and many areas in Kinnaur are inaccessible. Summer months from May to October are advisable but carry woollens even in summers.Avoid monsoon months too are landslides are frequent. Darjeeling is not even in HP but Dharamshala and Dalhousie are. The route we took when we travelled few years back was Chandigarh to Saharan(stopover) next day to Kalpa.3 nights in Kalpa .Back from Kalpa to Rampur(stopover) and then next day to Chandigarh. The Kinnaur road is treacherous and if self driving should be attempted only when fully alert so taking break is highly recommended. We used the beautiful HP guesthouses and booked them online followed by phone calls to confirm bookings.

Winters of Kinnaur are harsh, extremely cold, and unforgiving. The temperature can drop as low as -5 degrees Celsius in Kinnaur. If you had places like Sangla or Nako in your itinerary, then be ready for temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius. Even the day temperature will remain close to 0. December to February is the best time to experience snowfall in Manali. With temperatures that hover around subzero, Manali becomes a paradise on earth with its snow-clad surroundings While tourists visit Manali throughout the year. The months from October to March see a sudden change in the weather, as by the end of October a slight cold reigns in the area. Winter is at its peak from mid- November to January and the temperature ranges between 7 degrees to 5-degree Celsius.
