Gokarna is a place to be enjoyed for its peacefulness... for new year it would be hard to find accomodation as very few places offer online booking and maximum bookings for stay can be done only after visiting the place, advisable dates should be 2 weeks before or after new year, around full moon. thats my suggestion. however you can still plan it if things work out for you.
