Yes thats true diwali and baisakhi are two festivals when visit to golden temple is just extraordinary.
Well 7 days are not required for amritsar depending upon the location you are travelling from.
I have done my trip from delhi which concluded in 3 days that comprises of 11 hours travel by train one side and staying for a day in amritsar.

Not for only amritsar.I wanted to visit what is there in and around Amritsar.
Also as i understand there was no lantern festival hold in Amritsar. Some one just posted photoshopped images on social media

As far as I know..the pictures were photoshopped and apparently there’s no lantern festival at amritsar but it’s definitely worth a visit and don’t forget to pay a visit to wagah border

I guess 2-3 days are more than enough for Amritsar. Yeah golden Temple is decorated well but I haven't seen sky lanterns show as I visited it last Diwali. Do visit Sadda Pind, it was really nice experience.
