Flight is best option as you can take flight to Bangalore then by bus or car go to Ooty.

If you want cheaper flight then travel to bangalore by air then a road trip to ooty. If you want a close touch to nilgiris, travel by air to Coimbatore and reach mettupalayam, then take toy train to ooty. Without experiencing the toy train visiting ooty is nothing completed.
