I've been there last year. Go through the Shimla - Reckong Peo - Kaza route. It gives you enough time for acclimatization and you're able to see how the valleys change from lush green mountains to Barren beautiful mountains. Plan should be of at least a minimum of 12-15 days because as you go further into the valley there are only a handful of buses for the long routes and if you miss them you'll be wasting an entire day. But if you have a private vehicle then it's all good.

Take the Manali route, this way you could even experience lahaul. This is only possible if you have 14/15 days in hand.

Hi ! Iam from Kinnaur and I suggest you to choose a Shimla-Rampur-Reckong Peo(Kalpa-Roghi) -Nako-Kaza route. enroute Rampur to Reckong Peo you can visit Sangla- Chitkul-Rakchham too. Kalpa-Roghi is one more destination at Kinnaur that can be covered during this trip. you can return on same route or else you can also choose Spiti-Manali route while going back if u want to cover Manali in your trip. Hope this one helps you :)

Manali Leh highway and then further public transportation to chitkul

Of these two routes, going via Shimla is, of course, the preferred way to reach Chitkul. If you started by 3 to 4 AM from Chandigarh, you can actually make it to Chitkul the same day; whereas from Manali side, it will be a 3 days journey. You will first reach Manali on Day 1, then Kaza on Day 2 and Chitkul on Day 3
