Is it possible that a person has 4k plus credits in current month (as per leaderboard) and overall credits as shown in their profile less then that?

Yes, leaderboard shows the total credits earned in a month. So if anyone redeems some credits profile shows less than leaderboard credits. Redeeming doesn't affect the leaderboard credits.
