Temperature - The air temperature during the season of winter fluctuates between 2°C and 9°C. Weather – The weather of winter in Darjeeling is naturally nippy. Luckily, along with the frost and the chill comes an exquisite freshness and crispness. Although early mornings can get quite chilly, the days are graced with a ray of golden sunshine. Significance – Christmas and New Year celebrations are utterly enchanting. Shops and stalls are adorned with twinkling fairy lights that add to the festivity of this season. Restaurants offer Christmas themed menus and even distribute little gifts to customers. Things to know before the visit - January and February are the coldest months, which can get particularly uncomfortable for many tourists. The temperature can drop to below zero, so be wary of this. Take note of the fact that no hotels have central heating in Darjeeling. Tips – Make sure to pack jackets, gloves, mufflers, beanies and socks. Woolen thermal innerwear and monkey caps are incredibly effective. Furthermore, select a hotel with a sound heating system and electrical bed warmers.
