Travelling via Dhaka is the best route between Kolkata and Agartala as it saves 70% of time and money. A recent inititaive has been taken by the governments of India and Bangladesh of starting a direct bus between Kolkata and Agartala going via Dhaka. If you want to go by your own car you need to have a visa prior to your travel. You can apply for visa at high commission or consulates in Agartala, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi. Secondly, I think you have to provide a security deposit at border which is quite high as compared to the actual price of the car.

Haha, that's the much more reasonable and quicker way.

Hello, This is Nazmul Hossain from Dhaka, Bangladesh. If you wanna travel by your own car that might be so much expensive and getting the permission for that would be a hectic. In that case, i would prefer, use Bangladesh as transit by getting that kinda visa. it would be cheaper and the required time will be less then the previous one. thanks #peace

The governments of India and Bangladesh have taken a recent initiative of starting a direct bus between Kolkata & Agartala via Dhaka. One can reach the destination in around 18-20 hours by paying a one-time fare of 1,800 INR. The bus leaves in the morning from Karunamoyee in Kolkata and reaches Agartala next early morning. Though it is a daily service, but due to less passenger response, the frequency is not regular. This is a Volvo coach operated by BRTC and WBSTC (West Bengal state transport corporation). Both are government agencies. if you want to commute by private taxi better reconfirm the permit formalities through a local travel agent.
