Hey Shree, I am studying in Varanasi for last 5 years (BHU). Yes, it is completely safe for girls.The Best location to book hotel is Near Lanka, Assi ghat or Godowlia. And if you are looking for a budget stay, there is a Zostel in Godowlia near PDR cinema (Rs300 for one person,24 hours open, drinks allowed, they play daily one movie for backpackers at night).
UpvoteCommentThings to do in Varanasi : 1) Sarnath (Take an auto from BHU main gate or Lanka, Rs 50 per person) 2)Temples like Old Vishwanath temple, Sankat Mochan, Birla Mandir. 3)Evening Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. After aarti walk from Dashashwamedh to Assi ghat ( it will take 20 minutes. Most of the ghats of Varanasi will be covered.) 4)Wake up at 4:30 AM and go to Assi ghat and see morning aarti and sunrise. After that take a boat ride that will take you across all the ghats (Rs50 in share boat ) 5)You can also go to Devdari or Rajdari waterfalls if you have more days. 6)And for the delicacies try Bhaang Thandai (In godowolia),Non veg at Shah chicken (nayi Sadak in Godowlia), Kerala Cafe (Bhelupur), Paav bhaaji (at Assi ghat), Kullad vali chai (At Kashi cafe at Assi ghat), Lassi from pehelwan lassi (Lanka). It is safe but you shouldn't stay outside too late. Upto 10pm is good as Ghats are full of people by then but after that you should avoid. Days are perfectly safe. Take care and Have fun.

Varanasi is an amazing place and there can't be a better time than November to visit. Being solo female traveler u HV to be aware of certain things there. Be super aware of thugs. They will try to loot u..fool u..extract as much money from u as possible. So be ready to bargain. About safety issues..its like any other north Indian city..and being a tourist place and that too kashi..its a bit better. So just go there and experience it. And do take a boat ride in mind as well as evening. Good Luck!!!

It is safe to explore the parts of Varanasi but only till 9-10P.M. It is better to stay in areas near Assi and Lanka. Even the area of Godowlia is recommendable but it is a highly crowded area and is not suitable for peace lovers for staying.
Also, when visiting ghats, do keep a safe distance from thugs and pundits who are seek after money.

For sure You can travel ghats in 4 hr and by the time left visit BHU after that go to Street food and another day visit Sarnath , for shopping visit chaura Bazar .. best place for shopping you can buy any thing you want at cheap price but don't take a car there take a scooty and park it over

Yes, it is safe just keep some things in your mind, do not go outside late night, and wear a dress according to Indian culture, because you know people have some conservative mindset.
