Mcleodganj is great. But don't forget to include triund in your trip. I don't know whether they are allowing treks or not. But make safety the prime objective and not anything else. Also visit Dharamshala while returning.

Mcleodganj is a beautiful place to visit. But it totally depends on the reason for your visit. Mcleodganj is one of the most popular areas in Himachal and therefore it is filled up with a lot of tourists , restaurants and shopping centres which makes it a bit more city like. If you are looking at travelling to a place where you are okay with a lot or crowd then you can go here. Otherwise there are other places near Mcleodganj which are less crowded and nature can be witnessed really well such as Tosh, Kasol, Jhibhi, Bhagsunag. Hope this helps!
