Just start will traveling as much as you can before taking it to full time travelling. Start exploring nearby places maybe of weekends and 2-3 long trip in next 1 year.

AnswerWishlist (1)Do it solo. You will do it in less than 3k. The trek trails are well marked. Carry a stove, tent, mattress, sleeping bag and maggi & soups.Hire a guide if you doubt on going solo.

To cut down on transport you can always choose to travel by public transport, either bus or train. And to travel locally you can choose shared cabs or auto rickshaws

Well, a lot of times. But they were never too bad that I say India isn't safe. Eve teasing has been the most come thing during my travels but precautions and strong behavior has kept me going.
