Very good choice for a couple getaway!! Shimla is bit crowdy and too mainstream for a couple, if you didn't booked your stay, i'd recommend you to stay in Chail, 50km far from Shimla and very peaceful and beautiful place for a couple. After exploring Chail, you can go for Shimla and then Manali, opt for renting a bike instead of cab in manali as manali to Gulaba & Solang Valley journey has beautiful scenery all the way.
